Here is the second in my series of idols of this decade.

Although technically not really an idol of the naughties (because nearly all his great work happened before now) I think that his untimely death warrants Michael Jackon a place in this blog-post series. His life deserves to be truly celebrated.

Essentially Michael Jackson was the reason why I ever began to love music, and no other artist has had a bigger influence on the types of music and artists I listen too. Jackson was my original idol, he was my generation’s superstar and he will be sorely missed, no doubt about that.

I was fascinated to receive messages from friends and family to see if I was okay about his demise, which reminded me once again on the lasting impact he has made on me. I will forever remember the day he died but his music will forever live on like those legends that have left us before him.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson, after so much misunderstanding about your genius you do deserve to. You were one of our greats.

My favourite MJ tracks:
Man in the Mirror
Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’
Thriller
Billy Jean
You Rock My World

OFF THE WALL

Courtesy of Innocent Drinks’ email newsletter I came across this wacky video. Me love it.

Three things I’m infinitely bored of…

1. Susan Boyle – is she really that good?
2. Ronaldo’s overwhelming ego and transfer rumours – he wants to go so just let him
3. The MPs expenses scandal – day 109…

Enough already!

Despite Michael Jackson’s demise over the years it seems he still has a following. The announcement of his gigs at London’s O2 is all over the web, just check out this Twitter craziness from Twist. Register for ticket interest at this site.

It is 2009 so perhaps it is a good time to reflect on those people that have had a big impact on me in the last decade (Naughty because we are in the Naughties, duh). Over the coming months I’ll be highlighting the unique and interesting individuals that I think have been highly influential to me, to others or whom have made a big impact to the world in general.

First up, LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad, the drum and base producers,  DJ and MC. Some might view my first choice in the series as perhaps a bizarre one but the fact is that I’ve probably listened to their work more than any other musician or band. Their live set is something I’ve been privileged to experience and cherish on a number of times, but most importantly their sound has been the motivational music for my two marathons, one little walk around Ireland I’m about to do, as well as countless gym sessions. In their own words, music is energetic poetry to get you going and touch your soul. Guys I salute you…now, any chance of releasing a retrospective?
