The blogging community has gone mental in the last few days regarding implementing a code of conduct among bloggers. I am SERIOUSLY against this idea. The whole point about blogging is to be able to freely express whatever views that you may have…someone telling us what to do (aka a “censorship” code of conduct) should be ignored outright. Now obviously you are under scrutiny but it is up to the individual to act accordingly. And it is up to the individual blogger to ignore any abuse that comes their way (one can always moderate comments etc)…so this leads to the title of this posting. The blogosphere is a school playground, there will always be bullies but the community is strong enough to ignore the threats and it grow stronger as a result. I’ll leave on this note - if we decide to implement a code of conduct, we will limit the blogosphere’s growth and conversations will ultimately become more limited (we are new media, not old)…it is a free bird, let’s treat it that way and discover where it flies to.
